Legendary former Juventus and Italy coach Marcello Lippi feels that right now Inter are the superior team to Juventus.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former coach gave his thoughts on the two teams ahead of their match in the Supercoppa Italiana this evening.

Inter face Juventus as the defending Italian champions, as well as the current league leaders in Serie A.

The Bianconeri, meanwhile, have fallen some way from their dominant best from the past decade, only just making the Champions League places last campaign and currently occupying fifth spot in the table.

Juventus are still a formidable side and will feel that they have every chance in this evening’s clash, but for Lippi, the difference in quality between the two sides overall is evident, and the Nerazzurri are the stronger team at the moment.

“Inzaghi and his team are aware of their quality and they’re clearly focused on their goal of winning the Scudetto,” Lippi stated. “Last year there was still some balance between the two sides, but this year it is clear the swing in momentum.”

Of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, he stated that “I understand how before someone could have had doubts about Simone Inzaghi, perhaps thinking that he only really shone in the right conditions at Lazio where he had always worked.”

“But at Inter any doubts have been dispelled,” he emphasized, “now Inzaghi has proven himself to be at a very high level, a top coach. Hats off to the club for hiring him, it wasn’t an obvious decision for them to make.”

“The way they are structured, this Inter gets the best out of each individual player based on their characteristics,” he added, “everyone is made the most out of.”

“Dzeko has always beenalways a great player, very intelligent, he scores goals and helps his teammates score as well,” he added.

Lippi then stated that “Calhanoglu is doing very well in the role of a modern midfielder. I have never seen Sanchez playing at this level before, he looks exceptional.”

“And Bastoni has been brilliant, while Gagliardini is always ready to contribute,” he added.
