Former Inter Club President Bedy Moratti feels that the demolition of the San Siro to make way for a new stadium in Milan is something that can be gotten past if it is necessary.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, Moratti emphasized that the moving to a new stadium is necessary even if there are sentimental objections to it.

Inter and AC Milan are pressing forward with their plans to build a new stadium in the city over the next few years, and a particularly contentious aspect of their proposal involves the demolition of the existing San Siro.

Opponents of the demolition are taking steps to try and block it, as they see the existing stadium as an iconic part of the city, and hope to renovate it rather than building a new stadium

Moratti understands why people feel this way, but also feels that the clubs must make the decisions that are best for their future, including going ahead with their stadium plans.

“The world will go on,” she said of the demolition of the San Siro, “you can’t expect football to stand still. At San Siro we won and I will be very sorry to see it gone, but I also understand those who feel that a change is necessary.”
