Former Inter defender Marco Andreolli has highlighted the mental growth of the Inter squad when discussing the Supercoppa Italiana victory, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking on Wednesday night whilst on Inter TV, via FCInter1908, Marco Andreolli explained that the mental strength of the team does not seem to stop growing and that is why the Nerazzurri ran out winners at San Siro.

“We weren’t able to be so incisive in the second half, then came that incredible goal from Sanchez. It’s a deserved victory. I find that the mental growth of this team is constant and tonight’s final is proof of that. It’s a victory of the group, from the first to the last.”

Marco Andreolli also pointed to the wider squad element of the way that Inter won the game. Two players who were substituted on late in the game teamed up to secure the trophy. Matteo Darmian poked the ball to Alexis Sanchez in the box who applied the finish with the last kick of the game.

“Nobody should feel excluded. It was everyone’s victory. Those who came off the bench were decisive tonight. There are many players who are not only technical but also sensible like Sanchez.

“They know how to wait, sit on the bench and be important on the pitch for the group with their experience. Sanchez proved it tonight. Winning like this is even crazier.

“Football always surprises us, this time it went in the best way. It was better not to have gone to penalties. Sanchez’s goal is a poacher’s goal, like a true striker.”

Inter had fallen behind in the match thanks to a header from Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie. Lautaro Martinez soon equalised, and Alexis Sanchez found the winner in extra time.
