Inter should have had two opportunities to score from the spot in the first half against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, the officials in charge of the final at San Siro did not have the most convincing performance according to many fans and corners of the Italian media.

It has been argued that Inter should have been awarded a penalty in the 11th minute of the game when Giorgio Chiellini took Nicolo Barella down in the box. Both the referee and the Video Assistant Referee decided that no foul had taken place.

Inter were later given a penalty when a very similar foul was committed by Mattia De Sciglio on Edin Dzeko, leading to Inter’s equaliser.

There were also at least three instances where yellow cards were not handed out when they should have been.
