Italian journalist Alessandro Barbano has expressed anger at Inter not being awarded a penalty early in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Juventus on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As was written in Corriere dello Sport, Alessandro Barbano feels that it felt more like a football match from before the Video Assistant Referee was introduced. The only upside is that the correct team still won the game.

“It is football before VAR, a very clear penalty not given, how can you judge a match like this? How can they not see it? The Nerazzurri’s joy puts an end to the controversy and gives back fairness to the result.”

The incident in question is the challenge made by Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini on Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella in the 11th minute of the match at San Siro.

Many felt it was clear that the Italian centre back had impeded the Nerazzurri midfielder without getting anything on the ball.

Inter were later awarded a penalty for a very similar incident, this time involving Mattia De Sciglio making contact with Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko in the Juventus penalty area.
