The referee of Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana triumph over Juventus has been criticised for his penalty decisions during the match, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Daniele Doveri failed to award Inter a penalty early in the first half when it was clear to many that a foul had taken place.

The incident came in the 11th minute and saw Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini take Nicolo Barella down in the box. The referee and the Video Assistant Referee decided there had been no foul.

Inter were later awarded a penalty for a very similar incident between Mattia De Sciglio and Edin Dzeko, which led to the equalising goal from Lautaro Martinez.

There was also some questionable yellow card decisions highlighted such as the foul from Giorgio Chiellini on Edin Dzeko when he was in a very promising position.
