Juventus midfielder Federico Bernardeschi feels that his team lost yesterday’s Supercoppa Italiana match against Inter because they faced top-quality opposition.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, Bernardeschi emphasized that he felt his team gave their all but that they came up against an exceptionally strong opponent in the form of the Nerazzurri.
The Bianconeri looked formidable for long periods of yesterday’s match, taking an early lead, holding out defensively after Inter’s equalizer, and also threatening the Nerazzurri’s goal on a number of occasions.
However, even against this determined Juventus team full of quality, it was Inter who dominated possession and created more chances, earning their first piece of silverware for the campaign.
Bernardeschi acknowledged the Nerazzurri’s strength, while he couldn’t hide his disappointment at the manner of the late and dramatic Inter winner at the end of an intense match that went right to the end of stoppage time.
“We feel regret and disappointment,” he reflected, “but we played evenly for 120 minutes against a great team in the form of Inter. They’re proving themselves to be the strongest team in Italy.”
