Former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga has pointed out a double standard amongst the discourse around Inter involving Samir Handanovic, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Sportal.it, via FCInternews, Walter Zenga suggested that Samir Handanovic is unfairly blamed every time Inter concedes a goal, instead of that blame being shared by him and the defenders in front of him.

“When Inter doesn’t concede a goal it’s thanks to the defenders and when they do concede, it’s because of Handanovic’s error.”

Samir Handanovic has been the first choice Inter goalkeeper for many years but has made a number of high profile errors over the past couple of seasons.

Despite a relatively impressive season so far the Slovenian is often scapegoated as the reason for Inter conceding a goal when some blame can be attached to other players, according to Walter Zenga.

It is expected that Inter will soon announce the signing of Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana on a free transfer who will likely become Inter’s number one.
