Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris feels that the team did well to earn a point away at Atalanta after their efforts in the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, Farris emphasized that the team were still tired from their midweek clash with Juventus and was content with the display they produced against La Dei in a goalless stalemate.
The Nerazzurri had a chance to extend their winning run in Serie A to nine games in a row, but a combination of poor finishing and some good stops by La Dei keeper Juan Musso kept them from finding the back of the net.
Meanwhile, the home side were also kept out by Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic, and neither side were able to break the deadlock in a match which gave AC Milan and Napoli the chance to catch up two points tomorrow but kept another Scudetto rival at bay.
“We tried to build from the back, attack the space in behind and keep the ball high up,” he said. “Their players were aggressive in pushing up and we had to attack, which Sanchez did.”
“We were coming off the back of 120 very heavy minutes,” he emphasized, “Juve played ta very physical game.”
“And Atalanta always bring their game,” the coach continued. “For me it was a good match, there is regret at not being able to win but I also have to respect Atalanta for their excellent performance.”
“At the moment we’re certain of how we play, we keep possession for long spell and that’s what our focus is,” Farris went on. “It doesn’t have to be sterile, we try to create space and penetration.”
He continued that “We have adapted by pushing the wing-backs forward more, we exploit the space in behind with the forwards, we can score with passes from centre-back to centre-back.”
Of his role in the second half instructing the players in lieu of Simone Inzaghi, Farris said that “The entire staff is unified in how we operate, we work together happily.”
And about reported Inter target Paulo Dybala, he stated that “I’ve heard what Marotta’s said, someone for whom I have great respect. We’re happy with our attacking options, players who are at the level to contribute what we need.”
