Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio feels that reaching 200 appearances with the Nerazzurri in Serie A is less important than the trophies that he’s won with the club.

Speaking to InterTV after this side’s 0-0 draw with Atalanta, the 33-year-old emphasized that his main priority is to help the team out and not to reach personal milestones even if he is happy to have made such an impact in the team.

D’Ambrosio once again showed his reliability with a solid showing in the back three in place of Stefan de Vrij, slotting into the system as he has on various occasions through the season and helping the team to a hard-fought draw.

The defender has established himself as a key figure for long spells since joining the club from Torino in 2014, and even though he is no longer a guaranteed starter, his performance against La Dei attested to the fact that he can continue to make an impact.

“It is a wonderful milestone,” he reflected on reaching two hundred appearances, “I’m very happy to see these numbers, but in the end there are still the trophies to be won which is more important than numbers, we hope to raise more.”

On the goalless draw with La Dei, he stated that “Every time we go out on the pitch we aim to win, so for us it is always three points not achieved when we don’t win.”

“But at the same time we have to congratulate Atalanta who put in a great performance,” he added, “I think in the end the draw is a fair reflection of what we saw on the pitch.”

On the importance of the point, D’Ambrosio stated that “To get to the top you have to start somewhere, every point is important especially away to a strong opponent like Atalanta, who have extraordinary statistics at home.”

“We were aiming for victory because it is our mentality, but every point in the end is a point earned,” he added.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s Coppa Italia match, the defender stated that “Empoli will certainly be a difficult opponent, anything can happen in a single match.”

“But we are Inter and we want to go all the way in every competition,” he continued. “Empoli are doing well in the league, they have been playing together for years.”

He emphasized that “It’s not a match to be underestimated, which we never do with any opponent.”
