Inter captain Samir Handanovic will hold talks about extending his contract with the Nerazzurri next month when the transfer window shuts.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 37-year-old will look to get a sense of whether he will still be trusted to start regularly in making his decision on whether to stay on.

Handanovic’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June, and the Nerazzurri are all set to bring in Andre Onana over the summer as a long-term successor to the Slovenian.

However, the club are offering the captain a new deal to stay on for at least one more season, although it remains to be seen if this will be as a backup for Onana or if the two will compete for a starting spot.

In the event that the Nerazzurri give Handanovic assurances that he can fight for a starting place then he will likely sign a new deal, while it remains to be seen what his decision will be should the club offer him only a role as a deputy while Onana settles in.
