Former Empoli striker Massimo Maccarone believes that Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has done an excellent job in charge of the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the 42-year-old praised the work of the Nerazzurri boss ahead of the Coppa Italia tie between Inter and his old side Empoli.

Inter face off against Empoli for the second time this season, with the first having been a 2-0 away win in Tuscans in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri will not be taking any result for granted against Aurelio Andreazzoli’s men this evening, however, as they know that the quality that has brought the newly-promoted side comfortably into midtable in the league will show through.

However, Inzaghi’s tactical acumen could well make the difference as the Nerazzurri get their Coppa Italia campaign kicked off for the season.

Maccarone believes that Inzaghi is the right coach to match Inter’s ambitions, stating that “After several positive seasons with Lazio he is proving himself at Inter.”

“The most impressive thing that he has done has been to instill his ideas at Inter in such a short time,” he added.

On this evening’s match, the former striker predicted that “Empoli are at a disadvantage in terms of technical quality, but there’s a variable to consider in that they’re in a comfortable position in the league and could give their all in this match.”

On what he would consider to be the goal for Inter’s season, Maccarone named “Winning the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia.”

He also looked ahead to the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Liverpool, stating that “Liverpool are stronger than Inter on paper, but if Inzaghi gets his tactics right across the two legs then Inter can go through.”
