Former AC Milan and Bologna defender Daniele Daino believes that Inter have the opportunity to put themselves out of sight in the Scudetto race with a win over the Rossoneri next month.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the former defender emphasized that a win in the Milan derby would likely mean that the Nerazzurri would be too far clear of their city rivals for the latter to realistically catch up.

Inter finished this matchweek two points ahead of Milan who are their closest rivals in the table, with a game in hand, after the Rossoneri’s unexpected loss to Spezia at the San Siro on Monday.

After their match against Venezia before the international break, the next match in Inter’s schedule will see them face off against their city rivals in a derby that could have significant Scudetto implications.

A loss or a draw would mean that Inter will still feel the presence of the Rossoneri only a few points behind them, but a win could give them real breathing room at the top.

“Milan suffered a damaging defeat in a week when they had to take advantage of Inter’s draw with Atalanta,” he stated. “The derby in a few week will be a vitally important match. If Inter beats Milan, the Scudetto is essentially wrapped up.”
