Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is glad that his team showed the fight to come back against Empoli in the Coppa Italia yesterday evening.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach made clear that the most important thing was that the team booked their place in the quarter-finals despite the topsy-turvy match.

Inter went into the half a goal ahead, but they found themselves trailing after a second half resurgence from Empoli, and they were threatened by the prospect of going out of the competition in their first match.

Instead, defender Andrea Ranocchia found the back of the net with a spectacular overhead volley late in normal time to get his team back in the match, and substitute Stefano Sensi scored the winner in extra time to get through the match.

Inzaghi is happy with the result and wants to shift focus to Saturday’s Serie A clash with Venezia.

“In my opinion we had a good first half in which we probably deserved to score at least one more goal,” he stated. “After that we lost some of our composure, and Empoli are a team with the quality to make you pay.”

He added that “The guys really wanted to win, we played 120 minutes, they didn’t give up.”

“Now in two and a half days we have another difficult match against Venezia, and we’ll do everything to prepare for it,” he concluded.
