Inter have put a halt to the loan move of midfielder Stefano Sensi to Sampdoria for the time being after he scored the winner against Empoli in the Coppa Italia.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that the 26-year-old will not leave the club until at the very earliest after Saturday’s Serie A clash with Venezia.

Sensi had been all set for a dry loan to Sampdoria, with the Nerazzurri set to meet with the Ligurian club to finalize the move tomorrow and the player ready to make the switch to Marco Giampaolo’s team until the end of the campaign.

However, the midfielder remained with the squad for their Coppa Italia clash with Empoli, and proved his worth by capping off a strong display with an extra time winner to send his team to the quarter-finals.

Early on in the match, forward Joaquin Correa had to come off the pitch with a hamstring strain, leaving the Nerazzurri with only three forwards in the squad.

Sensi can be used in an attacking midfield role behind a striker, as he had been against Genoa at the start of the campaign when the Nerazzurri were shorthanded in the attacking positions.

Now, the Nerazzurri are waiting for the results of more tests on Correa to determine how long the Argentine will be out for, and they will base their decision on whether to let Sensi leave on loan on the results.

At the very least, Sensi will be in the squad for the clash against Venezia over the weekend, and then the club will make their final decision before the January transfer window slams shut.
