Napoli forward Dries Mertens has admitted that Inter are the stringest team in the league right now but holds out hope for Napoli’s Scudetto chances, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the Belgian forward started by pointing out the number of quality players that Napoli have who are producing some of their best form for a long time.

Look who we have: Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz, Lorenzo Insigne and Piotr Zielinski are all in their most mature phase. I’m in love with Di Lorenzo because he works so hard. This is a team that has had to pay a very high price for bad luck.”

Dries Mertens then admitted that Inter are still the strongest team this season but stressed that the title race is not over yet.

Inter are the strongest, they are ahead, they have an advantage, but it’s not over.”

Napoli had an opportunity to go 10 points ahead of Inter earlier in the campaign when the two teams faced each other but Inter won that match. Since then Inter have gone from strength to strength whilst Napoli have suffered a serious injury crisis that has hindered their progress.

They are four points behind Inter but the Nerazzurri has a game in hand.
