AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he was very close to joining Inter in January 2020 but took God’s advice and stayed at Chelsea, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport today, the French striker opened up about his religious beliefs and explained that he seeks God’s advice when he has big decisions to make in his life.

Whether to move to Inter in January or not was one of these big decisions and he opted to remain with Chelsea instead where he then won the Champions League.

“I need Christ’s help when I make important decisions in life. In January 2020 I was about to go to Inter and I asked him what I should do. In the end I stayed at Chelsea, I won, and now I’m happy here at Milan. Evidently, it was written that it would end like this.”

Olivier Giroud’s AC Milan team suffered a slip in the title race recently as they lost 2-1 at home to Spezia after a poor refereeing mistake and a late goal for the away team.

The Frenchman remains unworried though about the Rossoneri’s chances and is convinced they will stay close to Inter in the race for the Scudetto.

“We are only at the beginning of the second round and there are still many days on the calendar. We must not be worried about the classification: our goal must be to think about one game at a time and win as many as possible.

“After losing on Monday at home, we no longer have wild cards, but I am not worried because I know the value of our group. I am convinced that we will remain close to Inter and in the running for the Scudetto until the end.”
