Napoli forward Hirving Lozano believes that his team are only behind Inter in the Serie A table due to the injuries which have hit their squad.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Mexican gave the view that the Partenopei are overall stronger than the Nerazzurri despite their injury struggles.
Napoli have fallen behind Inter in the table after having initially taken a commanding position during the first couple months of the the campaign.
The Partenopei’s blistering start saw them go as high as seven points ahead of the Nerazzurri, before Inter cut the deficit by defeating them at the San Siro on returning from the November international break and subsequently surged to the top of the table.
Napoli have lost players to injury as well as COVID and the African Cup of Nations during the period, and Lozano believes that with a full-strength squad they would have been capable of keeping up.
“We can measure up to them,” he said of Inter, “and in fact we’re even stronger.”
He continued that “Looking at us player by player, we have more quality than them.”
Lozano clarified that “We’ve been unfortunate with injuries. And COVID has also been devastating for us, as it has for everyone.”
