Inter should have been given a penalty for the challenge by Venezia goalkeeper Luca Lezzerini on Edin Dzeko in the Venezia area in yesterday’s Serie A clash.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri were also lucky to avoid having their equalizer ruled out by VAR.
Referee Matteo Marchetti had to take advice from VAR before deciding to let the Nerazzurri’s equalizing goal by way of Nicolo Barella stand, due to a challenge between Dzeko and Venezia defender Marco Modolo.
According to the Corriere, the movement by the Nerazzurri striker on Modolo is a foul, and should have led to the goal being disallowed.
Dzeko was at the heart of another incident that the Corriere looked at, where the Bosnian looked to have been potentially cleared out by Venezia keeper Lezzerini who was going towards a rebound from a save, but no penalty was given for the contact.
In the view of the Corriere, this should have resulted in a spot kick being awarded the way of the Nerazzurri.
