Arturo Vidal looks to be the likeliest candidate to step up and take the place of suspended Nicolo Barella in Inter’s Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the Chilean is the favourite to start in midfield in the clash.
Inter will be without key midfielder Barella in the matches against the Reds due to a suspension that the 24-year-old picked up after his red card in the final group stage match against Real Madrid.
Simone Inzaghi will have to figure out a midfield balance that works in the match, with Marcelo Brozovic and Hakan Calhanoglu virtually certain to start, and Vidal and Roberto Gagliardini will both be considerations.
However, Vidal looks to be the likelier of the two to fill in for Barella, and will be tasked with replacing the 24-year-old’s influence in the centre of the park.
