Former Chilean national team goalkeeper Johnny Herrera feels that Alexis Sanchez plays a more selfless game with Inter than he does with the national side.
Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports, the 40-year-old emphasized that compared to his performances with the Nerazzurri, Sanchez is more individually involved but less effective with the entire team when he plays for Chile.
La Roja slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Argentina in a world cup qualifying clash that leaves their hopes of a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in jeopardy.
Sanchez has played an important part for the national team in many of their matches in this World Cup qualifying campaign as well as throughout his national team career, but was ineffective and could not help the team get a result against the Albiceleste.
Herrera is of the view that this reflects a stylistic difference to how he plays when he puts on a Chile shirt compared to how he plays for his club.
“The difference between when he plays for his club compared to for the national team is that if you count the minutes he has the ball at his feet, I think that with Chile it would be twice as much,” he stated.
“And in the end the team pays for that,” he added. “He always wants to be the playmaker. When he plays for the team, he shows his best. He plays much more collectively in Italy.”
