Former Parma defender Lorenzo Minotti feels that Robin Gosens is a strong piece of business, but is less of a fan of the addition of Felipe Caicedo.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 54-year-old praised the addition of Gosens as strengthening the Nerazzurri for seasons to come but argued that Caicedo is an unnecessary and short-term piece of business.

Inter moved fast to sign Gosens, bringing in a player who can be expected to start regularly for the next few seasons at least after having been reportedly in the hunt for a shorter-term backup for Ivan Perisic.

In Caicedo, on the other hand, Inter have signed a player who will be expected to make an instant impact but not necessarily do much more beyond that.

Minotti feels that signing Caicedo doesn’t strengthen Inter enough in the immediate future to justify making the move for him.

“I would say that Gosens fits perfectly with the team’s tactical approach,” he said. “A really good choice for the team on a footballing level, Inter are at the top of the table and always thinking ahead, anticipating the market, sort of like what Juventus to do.”

“I would say that this is an excellent strategy,” he went on.

And on Caicedo he said that “I’m not so sure about that signing. I can’t really agree with it. At a time when we’re talking about saving and paying attention to the financial side of things, signing a player who gives you depth, but only to play a few games in the last four months of the season, I don’t know.”

“I’d have taken a chance on a young player like some foreign clubs do,” he added. “This signing was made to make the coach happy.”
