Former Inter midfielder Francesco Bolzoni believes that Inter target Gianluca Scamacca must make the step up and prove that he is ready for the highest level of football.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FootballNews24, the 32-year-old gave the view that the next couple seasons will prove a test of whether or not the Nerazzurri striker is able to fit in at a top club.

Inter have identified Scamacca as a player with the right profile in terms of his age and technical style to lead their attack into the future, and are widely reported to be trying to secure his signing in the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri are not the only club with a keen interest in the 22-year-old, though they currently look the favourites for his signature.

Bolzoni believes that Scamacca will face a decisive test soon as to whether he is really ready for the elite in European football.

“I think he’ll have to wait one more season and show that he’s really a top player and ready for the biggest stage,” he said.

The former midfielder also spoke about other transfer business from his old club, stating that “I think Gosens is a great signing, he adds so much physically and mentally, he’s a full German international.”

“Caicedo knows Simone Inzaghi well and vice versa,” he went on, “he can be decisive especially towards the end of the season, when the starters will be more tired and worn out.”
