Legendary former Inter defender Andreas Brehme still feels a great connection to his former club and international teammate Lothar Matthaus from their time together with the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Magazine Pragma, the German reflected on his time with Inter and the feelings he still has from playing for the club which he considers to be a career highlight.

Brehme was a key part of one of the most iconic Inter sides ever, winning the Scudetto alongside his countryman Matthaus.

The duo had also played together at Bayern Munich, as well as with the German national team, and they formed a great understanding and personal bond based on their shared experiences.

Brehme reflected on the time spent together with the fellow Inter great, forged over a long period of time, stating that “Lothar and I had been playing together since our days in the German national youth teams.”

“After that we became great friends, and we continued to be at both Bayern Munich and then at Inter,” he went on. “You could say that at a certain point we became real lifetime friends.”

And looking back on the Scudetto win with Inter, the German felt that it was one of the crowning moments for his entire career.

“The long-awaited Scudetto triumph over Napoli, after so much time, was one of the most special moments of my entire career,” he said.

“The atmosphere at the San Siro Stadium was nothing short of incredible!” he added. “At that time, we were a fantastic team, the secret to our strength as an Inter side was definitely our team spirit.”
