Venezia head coach Paolo Zanetti feels proud of the performance his team put in away to Inter despite having lost right at the death.

Speaking to Mestre-based newspaper Il Gazzettino in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the coach gave the view that his side acquitted themselves well considering the circumstances and the quality of their opposition.

Inter were expected to beat Venezia at the San Siro given the respective places in the table occupied by each side, and the Nerazzurri further played with what looked to be their strongest eleven on paper from the start.

However, the visitors took a shock lead in the first half, and the Nerazzurri struggled for much of the match to break down a dogged and organized opponent despite having more of the possession.

In the end, it was one moment of real quality when Edin Dzeko headed home from the Denzel Dumfries cross that settled the match in the Nerazzurri’s favour, but the Venetians stood tall.

“Despite losing 2-1 after conceding in the 90th minute, I congratulated the guys after because we showed our spirit,” he said. “We stood up well against the Italian champions, even with significant difficulties in our preparations.”
