Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti was not expecting Inter to do as much work during the January transfer window as they did in the end.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti expressed surprise at the Nerazzurri’s window and also praised the signing of Robin Gosens from Atalanta in particular.
Reports at the beginning of the January window suggested that the Nerazzurri would likely be fairly circumspect about intervening in the transfer market.
Despite being in search of a left wing-back to back up Ivan Perisic, the club faced financial restrictions and were reportedly only interested in loan moves given the strength of the squad.
In the end, they pulled off a deal for a long-term target in the form of Gosens, and also signed Felipe Caicedo on a short-term loan to make up for an injury to Joaquin Correa, something which surprised Sconcerti.
“Inter surprised me because they went back into the market,” he writes. “Gosens is a great signing and is ideal for Inzaghi’s style of play.”
“It will be important to know if the money for him will come from China or will remain within their self-financing,” he goes on.
