Former Lazio and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio has said that Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez complement each other and that is why they are scoring so many goals, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Paolo Di Canio was initially asked if the best attacking duo in the league will be the one that wins the Scudetto this season.

He claimed that there is only one genuine duo and that is Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Matinez at Inter.

“If you want. However, I see very few attacking pairs around. Only one, actually. That of Inter. With Vlahovic even Juve can build it. So far the ball usually went on the outside.

“Now, assuming that everyone is doing well and that the market has brought back the enthusiasm, it is legitimate to start a discussion on who would be good next to the new centre forward.”

He then went on to explain how the pair work so well together with Edin Dzeko often dropping deeper and Lautaro Martinez attacking the space behind defenders.

“We are talking about two who complement each other. Not how perfection was once conceived: that is, one tall and dominant, one short and mobile. Here we find alchemy right on the level of the game.

“Dzeko knows how to be a refined attacking midfielder when he lowers himself between the lines, while Lautaro attacks the depth. It is no coincidence that they scored twenty goals together.”

He was then asked where Joaquin Correa fits into the attacking department but he said that Joaquin Correa and Felipe Caicedo and Alexis Sanchez are the alternatives to the clear best duo that Simone Inzaghi has.

“These are alternatives. Even Sanchez, who has found his vein, also Caicedo, who Simone Inzaghi wanted to complete the department. But the perfect couple remains the same. It should be emphasized the volume of play that Inter are developing around. In the end, either with one of the two or with the third joining in, matches like the one with Venezia are resolved.”

Finally, Paolo Di Canio feels that Inter can beat Liverpool in the Champions League if they attack them from the off.

“It will be difficult for Juve to go a long way. Inter have a tremendous eighth. To pass they have to dribble in the face of Liverpool, who tend to fall asleep. Too bad for the disqualification of Barella.”
