Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has said that he learned a lot from Diego Milito when he was younger, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.

Speaking during an interview with Inter TV, the club’s official TV channel, via FcInternews, the Argentine striker discussed the relationship he has with former Nerazzurri striker Diego Milito.

Lautaro Martinez made his professional debut for Racing in Argentina and he came on in place of Diego Milito, the man who scored twice in Inter’s 2010 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich.

“This is a unique moment in the life of a football player. I wanted to be a professional and in this photo you can see my debut, with a player who made football history and I can say is a friend of mine.

“He has lent me a hand when I needed it. I learned a lot from him and this is a moment that I always carry with me. It means so much to step into his place, I knew what he meant for football and Racing.

“He went off the pitch to applause and I dreamed of going out like this too. I worked a lot and I’m happy about that.”

One of Lautaro Martinez’s biggest achievements during his career so far was helping Argentina to win the most recent Copa America.

He explained how special it was to win after so long without a trophy, and to win it with a player like Lionel Messi who wanted to win more than anyone else.

“Unique emotions, the Argentine national team had not lifted a cup for 28 years. It was also the dream of Leo Messi who had been with the national team for a long time, as well as ours because it was a difficult period for everyone and we wanted to give joy to the Argentine people due to the pandemic.

“After so many years raising the cup at Maracana, in Brazil, in a competition that was to be played in Argentina. It seemed written. A nice memory. There are many forwards of the national team who have passed and failed to win.

“I am very happy to have contributed, for all of us and the Argentines. It was important and we did it with great football, with team spirit and with Messi who is our flag. He is the best in the world, he has won seven Ballon d’Or. He says it all.”

Lautaro Martinez scored twice for Argentina during the recent international break.
