Former AC Milan player Ruud Gullit has said that if Inter win the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday evening then it could be decisive for AC Milan’s title hopes, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Ruud Gullit explained that if Inter takes all three points it could be the end for AC Milan and he feels that the Nerazzurri are the favourites to do so.
“Yes, it can be. Especially if Inter wins it. I believe that at the moment the Nerazzurri are slightly favorites especially from a psychological point of view because they are ahead in the standings and are reigning champions.”
When asked what he likes the most about Inter right now, the Dutchman said it is the way they replaced the important elements of the team that were lost during the summer of 2021.
“The fact that they were able to easily replace elements like Lukaku, Hakimi and Eriksen in addition to the coach Conte. It was a mini-revolution, but despite this the results obtained are even better than those of the last championship. The merit of the work of Inzaghi, the group and the management.”
Unfortunately, Ruud Gullit thinks that a cagey and boring match may happen like when Milan played against Juventus recently because Inter knows that a draw is okay and AC Milan know they cannot lose.
“The stakes are high for both of them. Milan must win to return to -1 because Inter also have a match to recover; the Nerazzurri can even draw, while if they succeed they would even run away and they would probably be impregnable.
“I think in the end a match like Milan-Juventus will come out, that is, quite blocked and nervous. Maybe it will end in the same way, with a draw.”
When finally asked who wins the Scudetto, he said: “I hope Milan, but it will be tough.”
