Ex-Inter Midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi On The Milan Derby: “When I Think About It I Get Chills”

Former Inter midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi has recalled his fond memories of playing in the Derby della Madonnina for Inter, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Evaristo Beccalossi admitted that he still gets chills when he thinks about the time where he scored a brace during a Derby della Madonnina back in 1979.

“Every time I think about it I get chills: scoring a brace in a derby is the most incredible thing that can happen to a player. Inter people and the joy in the eyes of my teammates. That 2-0 in 1979 will remain forever: it was the last Italian-only Inter, a wonderful team that won an unexpected Scudetto.”

He also talked about how the majority of that particular Inter team had come through the youth ranks at the club so they had a special attachment to the situation.

“And many of those guys had grown up in the youth sector, so they had Inter in their veins. They tried to explain to me what the derby was, but for someone who comes from outside it is not imaginable until you’re there.

“It had been years since Inter had won a derby, so after my brace, all the pride of the Inter fans came out: I looked at them happily and didn’t understand anything, I just wanted to celebrate with my people. It was a crazy day for me, for the team: awareness changed and in the end we won the Scudetto.”

Inter went on to win the Scudetto in that season and Evaristo Beccalossi stayed at Inter for another five years.

The club will be hoping for a repeat situation on Saturday evening as they host AC Milan at San Siro and are also aiming to end the season as champions.

A win tomorrow would be very beneficial for their hopes.
