Italian transfer journalist Luca Marchetti has said that very few big players renew their contracts well before their current one is set to expire, except for Lautaro Martinez, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during the Marte Sport Live show on Radio Marte, via FCInter1908, Luca Marchetti was discussing how hard it will be for Napoli to renew the contract of Fabian Ruiz right now when bigger teams are interested in him.

He went on to explain that very few influential players renew their contracts when they are still in the middle of an existing one, with Inter forward Lautaro Martinez being an exception.

“There are not many players who have renewed by heart well before the deadline, perhaps only Lautaro Martinez who would have preferred a big Spaniard but, since there is no possibility, Inter becomes the first opportunity. In that case, the perfect renewal situation was found. Other players may be strong because they know the offers will come.”

Lautaro Martinez signed a new deal earlier this season and it put an end to a lot of speculation around whether he would join a Spanish side such as Barcelona or Atletico Madrid.

He is still being loosely linked with a move away in the summer.
