Italian journalist Franco Vanni believes that Inter forward Alexis Sanchez didn’t live up to his own recent confident remarks with his performance in the derby against AC Milan.

Tweeting after the match, Vanni aimed a criticism at the 33-year-old for his role in the Nerazzurri’s capitulating a 1-0 lead to lose their second Serie A match of the season after coming off the bench.

Sanchez has found more regular playing time since around the start of December, having struggled for form and fitness earlier in the campaign.

A dramatic last-gasp winner against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana was a highlight for the Chilean’s season so far, and after that match he had projected great confidence about what he can still contribute to this Inter side.

However, against the Rossoneri earlier this evening, the former Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United forward not only had little impact in attack but also gave the ball away for the equalizer.

Vanni believes that this performance suggests that Sanchez got ahead of himself with some of his comments, tweeting that “Sanchez’s performance shows that it’s better to count to a million that to call oneself a champion and talk about oneself in the first person.”
