Legendary former Argentina and Valencia striker Mario Kempes feels that Inter’s Lautaro Martinez is a highly effective goal-scorer in the final third despite not being the most obviously skilful player.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster Radio Dal Plata, the Albiceleste legend highlighted Martinez’s goal-scoring instincts even though the Nerazzurri man doesn’t always have the most aesthetically appealing style of play.

Martinez arrived at Inter in the summer of 2018 as a promising player who had yet to really take off as a goal-scorer, but in each successive season he has become more prolific in front of goal.

This has also been the cases with the national team, where Martinez has emerged as one of Argentina’s most reliable sources of goals.

Kempes is impressed with the way that even when he is not the most visually impressive player in terms of his style of play, Martinez can always have a decisive impact in the final third.

“He’s a player who doesn’t necessarily have eye-catching skills, but he contributes a lot to the team and scores goals, which is the most important thing.”
