Roma head coach Jose Mourinho feels that Inter, as well as Juventus and AC Milan, are subject to more lenient treatment from Serie A referees in some instances than the Giallorossi are.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his team’s 0-0 draw with Genoa in which Giallorossi midfielder Nicolo was sent off for protests to the referee, Mourinho singled out Inter striker Lautaro Martinez among the players who would not have gotten the same punishment.
The Giallorossi looked like they had rescued a win against ten-man Genoa with a very well-taken goal by Zaniolo late on in the match.
However, they were disappointed to find that the strike was ruled out due to an infringement by Roma striker Tammy Abraham in the move leading up to Zaniolo’s goal, and would have to settle for sharing the points.
Zaniolo made no attempt to hide his frustrations, and was shown a red card following some of his angry words to the official, and the Giallorossi coach feels that Inter are among the teams whose players would not suffer this fate.
“If Zaniolo played for Inter, Juve, or Milan, would it be the same situation?” the Portuguese coach asked rhetorically.
“Do you think that Lautaro Martinez would be given that red card at San Siro for example? He would never be sent off for that at San Siro, the same goes for Chiellini or Zlatan,” he said.
