Former Juventus and Bologna midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi believes that after this weekend’s Serie A results, Inter are in a three-team race for the Scudetto with AC Milan and Napoli.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marocchi gave the view that the Rossoneri and the Partenopei have established a firm foothold in the title race, though Juventus and Atalanta have not.

Inter lost in the derby yesterday evening, allowing their city rivals AC Milan to come back with a quickfire brace from Olivier Giroud to take all three points.

Aside from the bragging rights from winning the derby, this leaves Milan just one point behind the Nerazzurri, albeit with Inter having a game in hand, while the Partenopei also caught up to the same position with their 2-0 win over Venezia.

For Marocchi, this has left the lay of the land as a three-team fight for the title over the remaining matches of the Serie A season.

“For the Serie A title, I wouldn’t include Juve and Atalanta in the discussion,” he said, “for me Milan, Inter, and Naploli will compete for it.”

He went on that “The Nerazzurri are the favourites, then there are Milan – after yesterday’s heroics they confirmed that they can stay up there as  they did at the beginning of the season.”

“And then keep an eye on Napoli,” he added, “they remain a strong attack despite some issues with their squad.”
