Former Inter defender Marco Andreolli believes that the Nerazzurri had been the dominant side in the first half of yesterday evening’s derby clash with AC Milan despite losing the match 2-1.

Speaking to InterTV, the former defender emphasized that the Nerazzurri’s standard of play had been much higher than their city rivals in the first half even though they through away the lead in the second half.

Inter created more and better chances than their city rivals throughout the derby, and were deservedly a goal ahead going into the break.

During the second half, however, they gradually dropped back and allowed the Rossoneri more of the initiative, succumbing to a late flourish and a quickfire brace from Olivier Giroud.

Nevertheless, Andreolli emphasized the fact that the Nerazzurri had looked to be the stronger side up until late on in the match, and that there were many positive aspects to their performance.

“In the first half Inter dominated the game,” he stated, “there was a clear difference compared to Milan. The 1 -0 scoreline was the least they deserved for the first half.”

He went on that “When you keep a game open, episodes can decide it. In the first half the territorial superiority, as well as physical and technical superiority was evident. We created a lot.”

“You have to kill of games,” he reflected, “when you keep them open against an opponent like Milan this can happen.”

“The equalizer came from a ball that we gave away,” he added. “It’s a pity to lose this way. After defeats like this it’s a positive to play again immediately. You must not think too much about the missed opportunity, you immediately have another opportunity to do well.”
