Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli feels that Inter’s substitutions greatly reduced their attacking quality in their 2-1 loss to AC Milan in the derby on Saturday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio 2, the former striker emphasized how the Nerazzurri were not able to push to regain the lead with the players they had on the pitch after their second-half changes.

The Nerazzurri had the lead after the first half, and looked to be holding their city rivals and even more likely to score a second than the Rossoneri were to finding the back of the net.

However, the likes of Ivan Perisic, Lautaro Martinez, Marcelo Brozovic, and Hakan Calhanoglu were all removed from the pitch, which proved to be an issue as the Rossoneri overhauled the scoreline with a quickfire Olivier Giroud brace.

Once behind, the Nerazzurri were not able to create any telling chances to salvage anything from the match with the players they had on the pitch.

“Inter played well for seventy minutes,” Altobelli said,” but after seventy minutes they barely got past the halfway line. Inzaghi made a mistake.”
