Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that a bit of a lack of pace in the Nerazzurri’s team was exposed in their derby loss to AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the former defender emphasized that the Nerazzurri looked unable to really stretch the pitch during the second half against the Rossoneri.

Inter found themselves needing a goal after going behind to a quickfire Olivier Giroud in the second half of the derby, but with Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez their two main attackers they were lacking pace up front.

Even getting up the pitch proved to be difficult for the Nerazzurri after having controlled the territory for much of the earlier part of the match, let alone doing so before their opponents got the chance to settle into their defensive shape.

In Bergomi’s view, this demonstrated the need that this Inter squad have to add a player with real pace in behind.

“Inter don’t have a player with the pace to kill off opponents,” he said, “they don’t have anyone who can stretch the pitch.”
