Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that the Nerazzurri had a major defensive lapse to allow AC Milan’s equalizer in the derby on Saturday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Zenga emphasized how the Nerazzurri let themselves get numerically overwhelmed for a brief period when the Rossoneri scored their first goal in a 2-1 win.

Inter had been dropping back over the course of the second half of the derby as their city rivals ratcheted up the tempo and pushed numbers forward to try and find an equalizing goal to cancel the Nerazzurri’s first-half lead.

The goal came from a giveaway by Inter which quickly made its way into the Nerazzurri’s penalty area, and as Zenga noted, the Nerazzurri hardly had the numbers back to cope with the quick attack by Rossoneri players.

He explained how the Rossoneri had a significant numerical advantage in the key moment to capitalize for their goal, stating that “Six AC Milan players were in the penalty area, compared to just three for Inter.”
