Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has suffered an ankle injury during the first half of the Nerazzurri’s Coppa Italia quarter-final clash with Roma.
This is confirmed by the club, who updated on the 22-year-old’s condition in a tweet from their official account.
Bastoni started for the Nerazzurri in the knockout match against the Giallorossi, but towards the end of the first half he landed awkwardly and looked to have twisted his ankle.
The defender immediately went down, and his teammates gestured that he would need to be substituted and would not be able to play one.
The 22-year-old left the pitch in tears following the incident as he looked to have been in some pain, though it remains to be seen how serious the injury was or how long it will be before he recovers.
The club have confirmed that Bastoni indeed suffered from a twisted ankle after the incident.
They tweeted, “Alessandro Bastoni was substituted in the 45th minute of the first half due to twisting his right ankle.”
