Former Inter and Juventus midfielder Pietro Fanna feels that the dynamic of Inter’s derby loss to AC Milan on Saturday was a strange one.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the former midfielder emphasized how the Nerazzurri have more pressure on them than ever to beat Napoli next Saturday because of the way in which they lost to the Rossoneri.

Inter looked their usual selves for much of their clash with Milan, but seemed to relinquish control right at the decisive moments to allow their city rivals to score twice in quick succession and take all three points.

Now, the Nerazzuri are only one point ahead of the Rossoneri, as well as Napoli, albeit with a game in hand on both.

Inter’s next match in Serie A is away to the Partenopei in Naples, and if that match hadn’t already had extremely high stakes attached to it, it certainly will now.

“Losing in the derby can always happen,” he said, “it’s always a strange game. Inter still have top players and I still see them as favourites though.”

“Despite Saturday’s loss, Inzaghi did a good job of explaining the reasons for the result,” he added. “Now it’s clear that the Nerazzurri play at a high level, they have personality and clarity of ideas.”

He also added that in Saturday’s clash with Napoli, “The points will be especially valuable, it’s a head-to-head clash. There will be more pressure than ever.”
