Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola feels that Inter did an excellent job of controlling the match in possession during the first half of the derby against AC Milan on Saturday.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former forward emphasized that, in spite of their loss, the Nerazzurri showed a composed display on the ball against the Rossoneri.

Inter didn’t necessarily look to dominate possession throughout the derby, but when they did have the ball they had a clear idea of what they wanted to do with it.

The Nerazzurri were proactive in possession, and did everything they could to dictate the tempo of the match, something which they were largely successful in doing in Ventola’s view.

In the end, the Rossoneri were clinical to take advantage of their best spell of the match to take all three points, but Ventola was nevertheless impressed with the quality of Inter’s play in possession.

“In the derby, Inter had a perfect first half in terms of controlling possession,” he said. “At the level of individuals, the Nerazzurri did well, but if you don’t kill the game off it can change.”

“The players who came off the bench for Milan were decisive, while those introduced by Inzaghi struggled,” he added. “In the first sixty minutes, with the Rossoneri in trouble, Inter had to score another goal.”
