Inter CEO Beppe Marotta feels that the suspensions to coach Simone Inzaghi and Alessandro Bastoni following the derby loss to AC Milan cannot become a distraction or excuse for failure.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset ahead of this evening’s Coppa Italia clash with Roma, the CEO emphasized that the team will go on and do its best despite the setback, and said that they are not yet certain whether they will appeal the punishments.

Inzaghi received a one-match touchline ban, while Bastoni was handed a two-match suspension for their protests to officials in the aftermath of their Serie A loss to AC Milan in the derby over the weekend.

The news came as an unwanted surprise for the Nerazzurri, but Marotta emphasized the importance of continuing on and not allowing it to become an excuse as the Nerazzurri seek to bounce back from the derby defeat.

The CEO stated that “We will analyze the report carefully, but we must be at our best even with this setback. We must keep improving even in these moments. The suspensions must not be used as an excuse.”
