Inter striker Alexis Sanchez is glad to have shown his worth to the Nerazzurri once again with a start and goal in this evening’s Coppa Italia quarter-final win over Roma.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, the Chilean expressed his happiness at having helped the team to the quarter-finals of the competition and also spoke about being happy with the opportunity to show his quality.
The Nerazzurri were a goal ahead for much of the match after Edin Dzeko’s early opener, but the nerves still needed to be settled with the Giallorossi knocking on the door and threatening their precarious advantage.
That changed when Sanchez picked the ball up and set himself for a shot in the 68th minute, finding the top left corner with an absolute screamer from a way outside the box.
The 33-year-old is glad for the win and feels vindicated with his display.
“I always want to play,” he said, “I said the same thing under Conte. The coach makes his decisions and I respect them, even if it is difficult to only play ten or fifteen minutes.”
On the Nerazzurri’s display on the night to secure qualification for the semi-finals of the competition, he said that “We also played well in the derby, but in matches like this you can’t make mistakes.”
“We ‘re calm, we always want to be on top, we keep our heads held high,” he added. “Roma are strong as well and they showed it on the pitch.”
