Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri feels that Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic form the most effective midfield partnership in Italian football right now.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, he highlighted the continued effectiveness of the two Nerazzurri midfielders after more composed displays from them in yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia win over Roma.

Brozovic didn’t stand out with his display against the Giallorossi as a few of his teammates did, but he was once again vital to his team’s control of the match as he has been throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Barella proved to be a decisive presence all over the pitch, and was an excellent complement to Brozovic that helped ensure that even without the third member of the Nerazzurri’s usual midfield Hakan Calhanoglu, the team looked solid centrally.

Ferri was very impressed with what he saw from the both of them together once again to help guide the team to a 2-0 win over the Giallorossi.

He called Barella “A guarantee of quality, one of the best Italian midfielders, he has an impressive calmness on the ball.”

“He has reached an impressive level of maturity,” he went on, “and together with Brozovic he forms the strongest midfield duo in the league.”
