Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is glad to have seen his team bounce back from Saturday’s derby defeat against AC Milan with a win against Roma in the Coppa Italia.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the coach emphasized the significance of the win as winning the Coppa Italia is as much of a priority as any other for the team and the result meant that they move forward to the semi-finals.
Inter kicked their Coppa Italia campaign a couple weeks ago with a topsy-turvy 3-2 win over Empoli in which they needed extra time to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Against the Giallorossi, the Nerazzurri produced a more convincing and controlled display to get through to the next round in ninety minutes, scoring a goal in each half and keeping a clean sheet.
Inzaghi was happy to see this from his team, stating that “The boys did really well, it wasn’t easy. Roma are a quality team, but I had no doubt that we’d see this reaction.”
“We wanted to make it to the semi-final,” he added, “the Coppa Italia is an important objective for us, we care about it a lot.”
He said he feels confident going into Saturday’s Serie A clash with Napoli because of “Our performances, and now we have many difficult matches that we will prepare for as they come along.”
“I congratulated the guys because they took to the pitch in the best way,” he added.
He looked ahead to the massive head-to-head clash with the Partenopei, stating that “We will face the match as we have every one since August, we’ll try to show our absolute best on the pitch.”
“Napoli are a serious contender for the title,” he added.
