Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni is targeting a return to action from his ankle injury in time to face Liverpool in the Champions League next week.

Speaking to reporters on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia’s Instagram account, the 22-year-old named the first lef of the Champions League round of sixteen tie against the Reds as his targeted return date.

Bastoni will miss Saturday’s Serie A clash with Napoli no matter what, as he picked up a suspension following his words to the match officials in the aftermath of last Saturday’s derby against AC Milan.

However, should he make a speedy recovery from the injury which he sustained during yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia win over Roma, he could be back in time to face Liverpool in Wednesday’s vital Champions League clash.

It will depend on how serious the injury is and on how the recovery progresses, but the defender is aiming for the match against the Reds.

Asked whether he expects that he could be fit for the Liverpool match, the 22-year-old replied, “Yes, let’s hope so!”
