Milan Mayor Beppe Sala expects that there will be extensive public debate on the new stadium to be built in Milan, and that Inter and AC Milan must participate in that debate.
Speaking to the press outside the Milan Polytechnic Institute, as reported by FCInterNews, the Mayor emphasized that the purpose of the debate will be to hear all views from the public on the new stadium.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been moving along with their plan to build a new stadium in Milan, which they see as vital for modernizing their infrastructure and increasing revenues.
However, even with the clubs having taken significant steps towards construction of the new stadium and received approval from the city council, aspects of their plans still face opposition, especially the plan to tear down the existing San Siro.
Sala was clear that public debate must still take place on the matter and that the two clubs will have to work within it if they wish to move forward with their plans.
Asked about the new stadium, the mayor stated that “There are no new developments, except that, as I’ve said in recent days, there is a public debate underway.”
He elaborated that “What the commission had to do, it did, at which point it’s clear that if parts of the public or civil society are opposed to parts of the plan, it is useful for them to be heard in debate, and the teams must participate in these discussions.”
