Inter defender Aleksandar Kolarov is expected to retire from professional football at the end of the season rather than any earlier, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported today by Corriere dello Sport, despite many suggestions that the Serbian could hang up his boots in January rather than wait till the end of the season, he will now see out the campaign with the Nerazzurri.

He is still training with the rest of the group like any other player. An offer was made to him that would mean retiring two months before the end of the season and moving into the observer’s area.

He declined this offer and wishes to be in the squad for the rest of the season. It is not yet clear if he will become part of Simone Inzaghi’s staff next season.

He has barely featured for Inter this season, hence the talk of early retirement.
