Inter are thinking of offering Alexis Sanchez a new contract that would be on a lower salary than he is currently being paid by the club, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, in recent months it had seemed that Inter are very keen to offload the Chilean striker because of his age and the fact he is earning €7 million per season.
He has become increasingly important this season though and now he may be kept at the club given he has a final year left on his contract.
The club do not want to keep paying him €7 million per season though so they may offer him a new short-term deal that would see him earn €4.5 million. This would allow him to keep playing competitive football without hindering Inter financially.
It is not clear if Alexis Sanchez would accept a pay cut to stay at Inter.
